OUR MISSION
Bard Unbound illuminates the fire of Shakespeare by getting it off the page and off the stage, through education and performance in nontraditional spaces. PLAY engages all our senses, links us to others in a shared experience, and creates a safe environment to investigate ourselves and our fellow man.
Other animals engage in play as practice for being their ultimate selves. Humans, engaging in play, essentially become more human. By being in the audience of a play, one vicariously experiences the actions of the various characters without having the attendant consequences and shares the experience with fellow audience members. By engaging in play personally - as students do in our various educational offerings - one steps directly into the shoes of a character to even more personally engage in their issues and choices. PLAY is good for you! OFF THE STAGE
OUR PERFORMANCE ETHIC Bard Unbound aims to give audiences the most direct experience of the text in a play , using universal light, modern costume, an intimate staging and not set. With no barriers, the audience itself becomes immersed in the play with the characters. Be prepared for close contact. We talk to YOU! |
Bard Unbound is proud to be a member of The Shakespeare Theatre Association (STA). For more information visit www.stahome.org.
STA was established to provide a forum for the artistic, managerial, educational leadership for theatres primarily involved with the production of the works of William Shakespeare; to discuss issues and methods of work, resources, and information; and to act as an advocate for Shakespearean productions and training.
